24 years is nothing in the evolutionary process of humanity. However; 8,760 days, 210,240 hours and near 13 million minutes are huge numbers relative to an event, especially if it is a sporting one.
It all started in 1993 when John Mitchell and his partner, the former English football star Sir Bobby Moore, decided to create a corporate golf event in the UK that enabled companies to network, develop new business opportunities and entertain existing customers, suppliers and partners – The World Corporate Golf Challenge was born.
In a short period of time the event attracted major sponsorship investment and secured the Times Newspaper as the official media partner. With over 6,000 companies participating across every industry sector this was undoubtedly the pioneering event for corporate golf.
The success of the Corporate Golf Challenge was crucial to international expansion and in 1996 the event was rolled out into other countries around the world. Eighteen years later the event has developed into a network of tournaments across every continent.
The WCGC maintains its position as the largest and most successful corporate golf tournament in the world with approximately 40+ countries represented at the 2016 World Final and 60 TV channels, 26 newspapers, 24 magazines and 18 leading airlines associated with the event worldwide.
I am proud WCGC has continued to expand and develop in the face of the recent global economy and I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank everyone interested in continuing the development of WCGC worldwide. Without the commitment from WCGC investors, staff, licensees, media partners, sponsors and participants alike we would not be enjoying the success of today or benefit from the exciting times that lay ahead.
