The 2015 WCGC World Final of the World Corporate Golf Challlenge will be held in Cascais, Portugal, from 30 June – 5 July 2015. Players and guests will have the privilege of staying at The Oitavos Five Star Hotel and competing at Oitavos Dunes Golf Course.
The World Corporate Golf Challenge represents the biggest corporate golf tournament in the world. Since its inception in 1993, WCGC has grown to such an extent that over one million golfers have taken part in more than thirty countries. The 2015 World Final represents a fantastic opportunity for players to represent their company and country at one of the world’s top 100 golf courses and second best in mainland Europe. Previous World Finals have been celebrated in South Africa, Spain, Malaysia, Mauritius, Jamaica and Scotland. The global nature of the event has never been more apparent than this year with an estimated record of 32 countries taking part at the World Final.
Commenting on the success of WCGC, Jose Guerra, Chairman of the WCGC, said: “We are delighted to bring the World Final to the spectacular Lisbon Coast and in particular Cascais. Offering beautiful beaches, quaint villages, unparalleled history and unspoiled forests, Cascais and Estoril are a must-see destination for any visitor to Portugal. Some of Europe’s greatest golf courses are situated here, including the venue for the 2015 World Final. Oitavos Dunes, which is currently ranked No.65 in the worlds top 100 golf courses. With no doubt this course will offer all of our competitors and guests a true links golf experience.”
Miguel Pinto Luz, Vice Mayor of Cascais, commented: “Through what we have and who we are, we work for Cascais to be the best place to live, for a day or a lifetime. Inspired by the charming atmosphere of the Atlantic, we are sure beyond that, you will also be convinced that we are the best place in the world to play the game of golf.”
The Road to Cascais has been the result of more than 150 events throughout 30+ countries. All the participants are now ready to win the WCGC World Champions Trophy, sponsored by Vista Alegre.
WCGC Global Ambassadors
Once again, players and guests will have the opportunity to share golf experiences with WCGC Official Ambassadors. Golf legend Tony Jacklin CBE will participate in a gala dinner to be held at the Casino Estoril, where he will share his history as a professional. On the other hand, Ronan Rafferty and Manuel Piñero will once again be captaining the teams that will play throughout the Corporate Cup. Simon Holmes, one of the most successful coaches in the world, will help participants enhance their game throughout the week and accompany them on their way to the title. Finally, Jeremy Dale will delight all attendees with his Trick Show, a great spectacle worth to see.
Cascais and its spectacular coastline are a must-see destination for any visitor to Portugal. Flanked on two sides by the Atlantic Ocean, the region is located just 25 km from Lisbon and its international airport, stretching west in a rectangle from Carcavelos to Guincho Beach. Nearby stands the imposing Cabo da Roca, mainland European most westerly point.
With its mild year-round climate, the Portuguese Riviera (as the region is sometimes known) offers a surprising variety of landscapes and attractions, combining a wide range of possibilities in one very unique destination. From pure leisure to business, golf, sun, sea and water sports, the Cascais Coast simply has it all and offers a new definition of the concepts of eco- and activity-based tourism.
Designed in 2001 by the renowned golf course architect, Arthur Hills, the Oitavos Dunes is considered one of the best golf courses at the moment.
Positioned in 65th place in the prestigious Top 100 by Golf Magazine 2013, it ranks number one in Portugal and number two in Europe. The planning of the golf course involved the preservation of the delicate ecosystem of the dunes on which it sits.
The Oitavos Dunes is the first golf course in Europe and second in the world to get the Gold Signature Sanctuary status, quality certificate awarded by Audubon International, in recognition of the highest level of conservation. All 18 holes of this course offer stunning views over the Atlantic Ocean and Sintra.
The Oitavos is an exclusive 5 star hotel. Inspired by the timeless beauty of the Atlantic coast, The Oitavos seeks to embrace rather than compete with nature. Its bold design, sleek lines and elegantly simple interiors focus attention outwards – on the historical and natural elements of the surrounding landscape and the drama and romance of the Ocean.
The blue of the sea and sky combine with the yellows and greens of the wild flowers and trees to touch your senses, while contemporary sculpture and paintings by Portuguese artists provide an extra flavour. The Oitavos has 142 guest rooms all of which have a private balcony with views of the ocean or golf course. There are also 2 suites The Atlantic and The Oitavos with an area of at least 64 square meters.
