The World Corporate Golf Challenge is delighted to confirm Luís Figo as Ambassador and the Luís Figo Foundation as Official Charity at this year’s World Final in Cascais, Portugal, from the 21st – 26th June 2016.

LFF_photo-agreement_conpieLuis Figo, the legendary Portuguese Footballer who played as a winger for Sporting CP, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter de Milán and won a record 127 caps for the Portugal National Football Team, created his Foundation in 2003. Using the mediatic awareness on behalf of those who need it most, in this case children and young people, Figo puts in practice his own social responsibility and citizenship.

The work of Luis Figo Foundation contributes effectively and within its capabilities, to improve the living conditions of those who, for reasons of health or socio-economic conditions, have their way of life limited.

The initiatives and projects of the Foundation are dedicated to children and disadvantaged youth, acting to create opportunities that allow them to claim citizenship that no one can deny. It bases its activities in four areas: Education, Hope, Health and Sports.

This agreement will give the chance for Competitors and Guests to learn about all the works and projects that the Foundation develops. Other than having the unique chance to socialise and meet with WCGC Ambassador Luís Figo throughout the week, the World Corporate Golf Challenge is looking to raise a substantial amount of money for its 2016 World Final Charity, the Luís Figo Foundation.

IMG_3727Throughout the World Final week there will be a number of opportunities for guests to show their support by taking part in unique and fun competitions, events and raffles all hosted by the WCGC and Luís Figo.

Luis Figo, WCGC 2016 Ambassador said, “Since I ceased to be a professional footballer, back in 2009, it is in another pitch I like to practice my competitive spirit. In fact, I’m surrendered to Golf, it has become one of my favourite hobbies. Golf is a sport in which I compete, above all, with myself, always trying to give my best to get a good result. On the other hand, Portugal is one of the best golf destinations in the world. So it was a great pleasure receiving this invitation to be Ambassador of this World Final in Portugal and to have this unique opportunity to make known my Foundation, raising funds to the several projects we’ve been developing”

Jose Guerra, WCGC Chairman added, “We are delighted to have the Luís Figo Foundation as the WCGC’s Official 2016 World Final Charity. It has been a wish of ours to partner with a charity for a very long time, and the Luís Figo Foundation and Luis Figo are a perfect match for the WCGC. This is the second year we are bringing the World Final to Cascais, Portugal, and we cannot think of a better way to align the event than with a Portuguese Sporting Legend and a charity that gives back to both children in its local community and children of the world.”

Sara Souto, CEO of the Foundation, declared “Sports can be a way to achieve a lot of people and wake up their “social conscience” and the figure of a professional athlete can be a role model. Have a practice of social responsibility is the “mission” of all of us, however, public figures like professional athletes, have also a “force” that can lead to certain type of behaviour, providing further assistance to the various areas of society that need it most”.
